Editorial Standards
Every page on The Doctor Directory follows three standing rules:
- Source of record. Doctor name, NPI number, primary specialty, and primary practice address come from the US National Provider Identifier (NPI) Registry, a federal database. Doctors who claim their listing may update phone, website, hours, photos, and bio.
- Verification. The Verified badge requires a 5-step process: claim, email code, license upload, admin cross-check against NPI + state license board, badge issued. Listings without the badge remain visible but are marked as unverified.
- Human review moderation. Every patient review is submitted through the review form on the doctor's profile and human-moderated before publication. Reviews that violate the review policy (fake, defamatory, non-substantive) are rejected. Doctors may post public responses.

Update Cadence
Doctor profile data is refreshed from the NPI Registry monthly. Claimed-listing owner edits (bio, hours, photos, phone) go through a brief moderation queue before publishing, typically within 1 business day. Rankings on leaderboard pages are recomputed continuously as new reviews are published. Each hub page (specialty, condition, state) is reviewed on a 90-day cycle. Every data-carrying page displays a last-verified date.
Corrections and Complaints
Report incorrect doctor information: email admin@thedoctordirectory.com with the doctor's URL and the specific field that needs correction. We update within 5 business days.
Report a fake or abusive review: email admin@thedoctordirectory.com with the URL and reason for the complaint. Reviews violating the policy are removed within 3 business days.
Doctor removal request: doctors who hold their NPI registration may request removal from the display index by emailing admin@thedoctordirectory.com from the email on file with the practice. Removed within 7 business days. Note: NPI Registry records are federal public data and may continue to appear elsewhere on the web.
